According to Frederick Herzberg, an employee’s motivation is affected by factors like recognition, achievement, recognition, challenges, quality of work content, growth, and advancement. Factors like the administration, salary, and company policies produce dissatisfaction. Herzberg figured out that there are other factors needed to keep employees from being demotivated and to produce an environment that will motivate them. These factors affect the policies and administration, the supervision received during the job, interpersonal relations, working conditions, salary, and security. Although these do not necessarily make employees more motivated, it decreases dissatisfaction and brings peace and order to the workplace.

Studies show that in America alone, there are 580,000 people working in the medical field. It is not surprising that many are choosing to take on the health industry especially for developing countries like the Philippines. It had become a major industry and source of financial stability. Since there is a steady increase in the number of employees under this industry, therefore, it is deemed most necessary to give importance to their work productivity.
Productivity doesn’t come from all employees because not everyone has the same reason or “motive” why they are to live out the life of this industry. Some even worked for the sake of earning and not for personal satisfaction. In other words, even the outcomes of their tasks are affected. This results to mediocrity and a second-rate service to the mass which also creates a domino effect in the country’s capability in the health industry. The author, therefore, aims to explore the band-aid solution that prevents mediocrity through “motivation.”

Writing down your goals with specific and desirable objectives will guide you in setting your goals and sticking to it. Setting a deadline to obtain your goal is a big help too. You must write in outline form all that you need to do to reach your goal one step at a time. State the job, title and even the salary that you want. It is important to aim high but dont forget to be realistic. You must also be prepared with the possible obstacles that might go your way and take note on how you can solve them. It is also recommended that you make a list of individuals that are willing to help you out.

Nurses ideally have a genuine concern for the sick and the wounded. Many people are lured to taking nursing courses because of the numerous opportunities that registered nurses can avail of. The best motivating factor in choosing a nursing career, however, should be because you have genuine concern and interest in helping the sick. If you find yourself irritable and uncomfortable around sick people who need your assistance and help, it would be more difficult for you to become an effective and sympathetic nurse. Remember that it is not only medical help that patients ask for from nurses but attention, care and sympathy.

There is a saying that practice makes perfect so is it advisable that you try writing down the answers to possible interview questions. Remember to prepare some examples of your experiences in your training or past work on how you handle tough situations. Practice your answer and keep them short. Explaining too much doesn’t really help. It is important to answer straight to the point. Practice your answer and keep them short. Explaining too much doesn’t really help. It’s normal for people to experience pent up emotions because of the job stress and the weight of responsibilities. All that can build up over time and become a reason for you to become less motivated in what you do, which leads to a lower quality of work output.
One of the things you can do is to have and outlet for your frustrations. Seek a therapist, or if you want a cheaper solution, write a journal about your frustrations at work. Whenever you feel something building up, take out your notebook and start writing, don’t stop until the fight goes out of you. You can even listen to some calming and relaxing music to get you back into the mood to work. Take a deep breath, and then start your work from where you left off.

Most bosses are demotivators or people who kill creativity by staying shut, not accepting suggestions and open to new ideas. Call them stubborn but they have the right, them getting along with their employees is a totally different matter. When reprimanding people, never do it in front of everybody else for shame is a very dangerous emotion that people can nurture within them leading to no good. Do such in a controlled environment, away from the rest of the group to prevent discouraging them. Always end with encouraging words and seek solutions for the problem that may have been created by the specific individual for their sake and yours. Remember the term “Command Responsibility”, your employee’s failure is in part yours too so be easy on the poor guy. Encourage improvement and tell them to learn from their mistakes for you were in the same situation when you were making your way up the corporate ladder.
