A researcher found that in his medical institute there are internal and external factors that affect the employees’ performance. The external factor was said to be the “hygiene” or physical elements while the internal factor served as the “motivation” or psychological element. Results show that employees weigh both factors important in their work. 81% voted for the external and 72% voted for the latter.

This only shows that the employer should not only focus on the external but also give utmost importance to the internal. For example, external factors may include wage and salary, job security, work environment, communication with others, supervision and the work policy while internal factors may include nature of the job, appreciation of employees, professional development and job success.

In conclusion, we find that it is necessary to motivate people who work under the medical field (not discriminating other fields only giving importance to the topic). The effectiveness of the workers lies in the leadership of the employer or manager. He or she must know enough data skills and people skills.

Moreover, we have also tackled that both internal and external factors are equally important to avoid mediocrity. To achieve this, there are two ways to motivate them and those are the Proactive and Reactive Technique. Both are considered important. And lastly, we find that effectiveness in jobs is related to the workers’ psychological and emotional state. Motivation, therefore, is a must.

The question now pops-up; which is more important? If we are to base the answer on the previous survey, then it would say that external factors are to be taken more seriously. However, 72% is not a small number. As we have concluded earlier, there should be a balance in both factors.
Now, another perspective is to look at both factors as inseparable. Without the other, none of them would work. Not only do the employees have to feel secure about their working environment and status but also about their emotional needs and satisfaction. In this way, it would become a win-win situation.
